Telecontrol Fixed Meters
Telecontrol fixed meters are measuring devices installed in TV sets in statistically selected households in a country (a panel, as it is termed) that automatically recognize which channel is being watched. In most studies, the panel reflects the entire population (depending on research design). The results obtained from the individual households are extrapolated so that conclusions can be drawn about the viewing behaviour of the entire population.
Various methods are used to identify the TV station, depending on the meter model: measuring the VPS code, measuring the frequency, measuring the Teletext signal or via screen interface processing (SIP). Most Telecontrol units use a combination of the various measuring methods, resulting in 100% identification of the channel.
In order to differentiate between individual TV viewers, Telecontrol meters have a remote control with which each member of the household and also guests can log on.
The data recorded by a Telecontrol Fixed Meter is stored in the unit itself and then retrieved overnight via the telephone line or the mobile telephone network GSM/GPRS for transmission to a central computer. Data on TV usage is thus available on the following day.

What should not be overlooked is the high quality of the products, which have a long service life. All units are developed as modular systems, which means they can be modified and retrofitted to meet changes in the TV market (e.g. the increasing use of digitalization).
